McDonald's Hours: Restaurant, Drive-Thru and Lunch Service

There is no single U.S. schedule. Opening times, drive-thru hours, lobby hours and the switch from breakfast to the lunch menu are set restaurant by restaurant. The reliable answer for any one location is its page in the official McDonald's restaurant locator or app.

Short answer

Hours belong to the individual restaurant, not to the brand. Two restaurants a few miles apart can open at different times, close their lobby at different times, and keep their drive-thru running later than the dining room, or not. This guide explains what varies and how to check it. It does not list hours for any location, because we have not recorded or verified restaurant-specific hours.

Not verified

Mac Menu Prices stores no opening or closing times. Any specific time you see quoted elsewhere as “McDonald's hours” describes particular restaurants at a particular moment, not a nationwide rule.

How to check one restaurant's hours

  1. Open the official locatorGo to the McDonald's U.S. restaurant locator and search by address, city or ZIP code.
  2. Select the exact restaurantOpen that location's details rather than relying on a search-engine snippet, which can lag behind changes.
  3. Read each hours line separatelyWhere the listing breaks hours out by service, note whether the time applies to the lobby, the drive-thru or the restaurant as a whole.
  4. Confirm on the day for edge casesLate at night, early in the morning or on a holiday, check the official app or call the restaurant before making the trip.

The lunch menu changeover

At most restaurants the day runs on two menus: breakfast in the morning, then the regular menu of burgers, chicken, fish and wraps for the rest of the day. The moment one ends and the other starts is the same moment, so the question “when does lunch start” is really the breakfast question. That answer lives in one place on this site: what time McDonald's stops serving breakfast, including what the official breakfast FAQ says and why the cutoff varies.

What matters for ordering around the switch:

  • The menu you can order from depends on the clock at that restaurant. An item on the regular menu may not be available until the changeover happens, and breakfast sandwiches typically disappear after it.
  • Ordering in the app or for delivery does not get around it. Digital menus generally reflect what the selected restaurant is serving at that time.
  • All-day items differ by location. Which items, if any, a restaurant serves across both menus is a local decision. We could not verify a current national list.

Once the regular menu is on, prices for the main entrées are on the lunch and dinner price page, and the full menu price table covers every category.

Editorial note

Our price dataset includes both breakfast and lunch listings from DoorDash delivery menus, but it does not record the time of day each listing was seen. A price in our tables therefore tells you nothing about when that item is served at your restaurant.

Drive-thru, lobby and delivery hours

One restaurant can effectively run three schedules.

  • Lobby

The dining room and counter. At some locations this closes earlier than the drive-thru, and late-night service shifts to the window only.

  • Drive-thru

Often the longest-running channel at a restaurant that has one. Some locations advertise overnight or 24-hour drive-thru service; check the listing rather than assuming.

  • Mobile order

App orders depend on the selected restaurant being open and accepting digital orders. See the app and MyMcDonald's Rewards guide for how ordering and points work.

  • Third-party delivery

Delivery requires both the restaurant and the delivery service to be operating. A restaurant can be open while delivery is paused, and delivery menus can be narrower than the in-store menu.

Delivery also changes the price, not just the hours. Our figures are DoorDash delivery-menu averages, which is why they should not be read as in-store prices. The delivery vs in-store explainer covers what that means for every number on the site.

Holidays and temporary changes

Hours on public holidays, during severe weather, renovations or staffing shortages are set locally and can change at short notice. A restaurant's standard hours may not reflect a holiday schedule. On Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and similar dates, treat any regular listing as provisional and confirm in the official app or by phone.

  • Do not rely on a cached search-engine listing on a holiday.
  • A drive-thru that normally runs overnight may close early.
  • Delivery availability may differ from the restaurant's own holiday hours.

Common questions

Are McDonald's hours the same everywhere in the U.S.?

No. Each restaurant sets its own hours for the lobby, drive-thru and digital ordering. Use the official locator for the location you plan to visit.

Is McDonald's open 24 hours?

Some restaurants list 24-hour service, often through the drive-thru only, and many do not. We have not verified how many U.S. locations do this. Check the specific restaurant.

What time does McDonald's start serving lunch?

Lunch begins when breakfast ends at that restaurant, and that time varies. See the breakfast hours guide for what the official FAQ says.

Why does a restaurant show as closed in a delivery app when it is open?

Delivery depends on the restaurant accepting delivery orders and the delivery service operating in the area. Either can be paused while the lobby or drive-thru stays open.

Does this site show hours for my local McDonald's?

No. We do not store or display restaurant-specific hours, and we do not offer a location lookup. The official locator and app are the sources for that.
